Life Lately

Life Update

Happy Sunday evening!  We had a nice weekend around the house.  My mom has been here the last two weeks (left Friday) and my MIL is now here for this week.  Friday was a hard day for me filled with lots of ‘water works’ as my husband calls it.  Not only was I sad to say goodbye to my mom, but our sweet nanny also had her last day with us.  When we hired Madie, we knew she wouldn’t be staying with us but for around 6-8 months due to her going back to school, but she was the one for us regardless.  Knowing that she wasn’t going to be with us longer definitely didn’t make it any easier saying bye either.  I am completely heartbroken for Carter and me.  She has truly been a blessing for us.  Her first day was August 1st – Carter was just over 3 months.  It’s amazing to see how much he has grown and learned since then.  I have so enjoyed having Madie around every day to share his milestones with and to get to know her.  She will forever be a part of our family.

With Madie leaving, I had to spend the last month on the hunt for a new nanny.  Having spent the last 8.5 years in human resources has really prepared me for the hunt!  I put my recruiting/interviewing skills to use and hopefully we have found another “Madie”.  She starts tomorrow so wish us luck.  I think I will do a separate blog post on what my process has been for finding a nanny in case it would help anyone else.  It’s definitely one of the most stressful things a mom can go through.  We only want the best for our sweet babe.

Carter finished up his 10-week swim lessons yesterday and we are going to hold on enrolling for the next 10-week series, for now.  I wish you could just pay as you go instead of having to commit for a 10-week straight period.  We avoided taking any trips these last two months so that he wouldn’t miss class.

While my mom was in town, we stayed up way too late working on a few areas around my house that I had been itching to get a hold of and straighten up (scrapbook room closet, setting up a gift wrap station and attic!).  Both were pretty big undertakings and both now look AMAZING.  More to come on those areas.

I’ve spent way too much time googling and pinterest-ing looks for my home office and formal living room.  The home office is pretty much a blank slate with my computer and desk set up in the corner so that I have somewhere to get my work done but I’d like to transition the room to a place that’s both functional and pretty.  The formal living room currently just has the couch and two chairs we had custom made and it will likely take me another year now to decide on rug, tables and lamps.  I know generally what I want but finding it (and having the time to find it) are going to be the issue.

It’s hard to believe but I’ve also been working on Carter’s 1st birthday decorations!  We are going to have a small party at our house to celebrate and I’ll share more about that and the décor afterwards.  Along with that, we are having his 12-month pictures taken about 2 weeks before the party.  I’ve been trying to figure out what he’s going to wear and then I’ll need to coordinate what Adam and I will wear in the family pictures with him.

Speaking of pictures, I was right on track in getting caught up on Carter’s scrapbook and then lost ground the last few weeks with having company/being out of town for work.  I have the pages laid out through him turning 9 months but now need to go back and make the actual pages/add journaling starting with mid-November.  I think I’m going to share my scrapbook process at some point, too.  Just need a few more hours in the day 🙂

I stayed up too late Thursday night and threw out my Easter decorations – they are some of my favorite decorations and with the 70+ degree weather we had last week, it just felt right that they come out of their storage boxes already.

I think that pretty much covers everything that’s going on around here – say a prayer for us that all goes well tomorrow with our new nanny – I probably won’t sleep a wink!  Have a great week and thanks for stopping by!
